Nephrologist is the person who studies nephrology. Nephron is the functional unit of the kidney. Chronic kidney disease and acute kidney disease are the different types of kidney diseases. Nephrology deals with diagnosis and management of the kidney and discusses about causes, symptoms and treatment of these kidney diseases. Diseases including diabetes and high blood pressure affect the kidney adversely and also intake of excess drugs, severe infection or radioactive dye leads to failure of the kidney immediately. Treatment varies depending on the stage and cause of your kidney disease. Most common signs of kidney failure are Edema (Swollen body parts), Dry and itchy skin, Pain in the abdomen, Change in the color of urine, Muscle cramps and twitches, Frequent urge to urinate, Loss of appetite and abnormal weight loss or weight gain.
